Mother Bowens posted on Facebook celebrating Avery’s brand new opening of his Chick-Fil-a franchise. Mother Bowens mentions that Avery is the first Black American to own a Chick-Fil-a franchise within the state of Mississippi. Bowens said that Avery has been wanting to own a Chick-Fil-a since he was 15 years old, “The feeling I felt today pulling up to a vision my son has had for himself for the past nearly 15 years (and stuck with it) was indescribable to say the least.”

Efforts were made to contact Chick-Fil-a’s media department to verify Avery’s news as being the first Black owner in Mississippi, but no information was provided at the time of publishing. We also asked Chick-Fil-a how many locations are within the state of Mississippi, and also how many locations are there nationwide, how many of those are operated by people of color, and if they are utilizing any programs people of color to encourage them to operate a location of their own.

We are currently looking into the information ourselves and plan to have it all for our readers soon.
